The NAATI CCL Exam or the Credentialed Community Language exam is for assessing your community-level language skills. People who want to lodge a visa application based on points usually take this test.

Applicants who pass this test are giving five points for the Skilled Independent Visa according to subclass 189, a Skilled Provisional Visa according to subclass 489, or a Skilled Nominated Visa according to subclass 190. The points obtaining are name CCL points or Credential Community Language points

Approval For Visa Application

Applicants who wish to take this exam have to look for approval from a migration agent or the Department of Home Affairs for visa acceptance. NAATI does not administer or set an immigration policy. Format Of The NAATI CCL Test

The tests for NAATI CCL are all online on all working days. It consists of two recordings featuring dialogues. The dialogues depict a conversation taking place between a native English language speaker and a native language other than English or LOTE speaker. The dialogue consists of around 300 words each, with approximately half in the LOTE and half in English. These are categorized into segments consisting of 35 words or less.

As the CCL tests are taken online, the candidates can sit the exam all across the globe. These tests are run according to the Australian time of Canberra.

Assessment of the Test

Two examiners, at the minimum, will be evaluating the ability of an individual to convey well in English as well in LOTE. There are two significant factors that play a part in the assessment:

• Quality of the language– competency in both LOTE and English
• Language Register– formality level through which an applicant transfers the actual meaning behind the dialogue.

Deduction of Marks

There is a deduction in marks for errors. The examiners will take into account the types of mistakes in your performance and the influence they have on your communication levels overall. The errors for which the CCL examiners will deduct the marks of the candidate include the following:

1. Accuracy defined by the correctness of the information
2. Distortions coming through misrepresenting the information
3. Omissions happening through the removal of the information
4. Insertions defined by the addition of information

Every examiner will award the results individually. In special cases where the examiners don’t agree regarding the candidate’s performance, extra examiners will assess your exam for determining the final results.

Marking of Test

The exam comprises two dialogues having 45 marks each, with a total of 90. For passing the test, a candidate will need to gain at least 29 marks in each of the dialogues presented and an overall passing score of a minimum of 63 out of 90.

The result for the test would be given to the candidates as:

1. Pass: 63 or above out of 90
2. Marginal fail: lying between 58 and 62.5 out of 90
3. Fail: a score less than 58 out of the total 90

Note: In cases where the individual attains 23 out of a 45 in Dialogue 1, 41 out of 45 in Dialogue 2, and the overall NAATI CCL Exam score of 64 out of the total, the result will be declared as a clear fail given the candidate is not able to achieve the minimum score in the dialogue 1, which is 29.

Declaration of Results

A test giver receives NAATI test result through email in 4 to 6 weeks of the NAATI test date. These are valid for three years from their date of issuance. The Clear Fail result candidates will not be eligible for applying for a test review because of the statistical improbability of the marks being overturn.
